From the writings of Moses the first act of God in creation as it were is “And God said”.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
This means when John said “All things were made by the word”: by implication he meant: And the word said!
And God said.
And the word said.
Notice Moses’ choice of word “said” in describing how God created in the beginning, particularly as it has to do with the earth.
By using “said”, he was specific on how things were created. “Said” by implication means words were expressed. Not thoughts, not wishes, not any other way you can think of but words were expressed to bring about the creation of the earth and things in it.
Let’s go back to Genesis 1:3:
“And God said” can be stated as and God expressed in words. What did he express in words? What he wanted to create.
Therefore, “And God said” implies and God expressed in words what he wanted to create.
Genesis 1:2 as we have seen was clear about the vastness of nothingness and darkness that was. This means all that God created never existed till he did.
When it was time to bring about the earth and all that is in it, he did it by expressing words or speaking.
Stop for a moment and think about this. God had a desire to “invent” and instead of him unleashing some divinely crafted tools or machines to deliver his invention or creation he spoke words!
Now, don’t wave it off by saying he is God that’s why.
I want you to ponder, why words?
When Moses divided the Red Sea he asked him to stretch his rod over it. When the walls of Jericho fell, they only had to walk round the city once for six days and on the seventh day, seven times. At the wedding at Canaan, water was turned to wine.
It is clear that God’s instrumentality for the creation of the earth and its inhabitants was words. God spoke and his expressions came to be.
In the speaking of God we found the appearance of what he wanted. This means that God’s word has the ability to become what it says.
The word, that is God, uttered words in the beginning and those words became a reality.
