The word, that is God, uttered words in the beginning and those words became a reality. And that God’s instrumentality for the creation of the earth and its inhabitants was words. God spoke and his expressions came to be.
It is clear that the vehicle for creation as seen in the beginning is word.
Let’s see a few from Genesis:
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
Genesis 1:3 KJV
“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.”
Genesis 1:9 KJV
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
Genesis 1:11-12 KJV
Notice Moses’ usage of the word repeatedly, “And God said” which captures the expression of words. These words which God spoke created or brought forth the things he talked about.
Everything God said came to be. Nothing became without “And God said”. It shows that God’s words are creative. The power or the ability to bring forth things that are not, to create, is in the word of God.
That said, you may get carried away with the many “And God said” and lose sight of something very vital here. Did you notice that the first time words were expressed in the beginning it was to create?
God was the first to speak, and what he spoke brought about creation. It shows something very important, the primary use of words in the beginning was to create.
What have we seen thus far? God’s words are creative. The first use of his words in the beginning was not necessarily to communicate as we know it today but to “communicate” creation.
The primary use of words as expressed by God in the beginning communicated creation. Since this is true, and God is God and never changes, his words are still creative today.
God’s word is creative.
