DEEP SATISFACTION.

Deep Satisfaction

Have you ever wondered why life seems to be full of needs, wants, pressure, and a search for fulfillment that seems never ending? Well if you have, I would like you to know that you are not alone in this line of thought. I too had at some point marveled at how life felt like an endless chasm that just kept growing and growing with no point of satiety. Countless times I was thrown into despair at just how futile a man's life was: he keeps acquiring and acquiring in a bid to fill this gaping hole within and still never finds true satisfaction. 

However, along the line, I have moved from this line of thought to one of total peace. This happened upon my finding the only source of true and deep satisfaction- God himself. Time and time again, we hear statements like "There is a hole in the soul of a man that only God can fill.". This was a statement I never understood till God showed it to me himself. 

All over the world, men and women crumble under the weight of pressure from this whole within them. Some of them we find to beChristians, and the reason is because for the later, they had not realised this truth- God is the only source of true satisfaction.

Time and time again, we have tried to place several things in this chasm in an attempt to fill it up- degrees, relationships, money, encomium from people around us, good deeds, material items, the list goes on and on. And everytime, we see these things fall short: never filling up the chasm. And the reason is this- the heart of man was created by God to be so vast that nothing would ever be enough for him:

"...He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]..."(Ecclesiastes 3:11b, Amplified Version) 

This is the reason why we find ourselves always hungry for a new challenge few moments after we just finished conquering the one we had set our eyes on. While this in itself is not a bad thing, as it has actually been the driving force for the birth of several ingenious ideas, it can become a thing of great concern for a man who derives satisfaction from his accomplishments. Such a person soon realises that life is but a cycle of achievements and new challenges for him, and this leads to a feeling of despair and depression faster than most things. 

When we understand that we can only be satisfied by God himself(not even by acts of service towards him, but by Himself alone), we would come to experience a satisfaction that can only be termed as "otherwordly". A satisfaction that lasts forever and is independent of our physical or emotional state. A satisfaction not anchored on our achievements or on the words of people: True, Deep, God-given satisfaction!
