“Of all things created, man was the only being with the record of being created in the image of God.
The intent of God as revealed in the word he spoke is for man to represent him on the earth—"let them have dominion in the earth.”
All these we said last week, we have repeated here for emphasis.
Remember how we started, God created in the beginning, and he does this by his words.
Man as the image of God—representative of God on the earth possesses the ability of God. This will allow him to carry out his dominion on the earth—to subdue the earth and make it respond to his dictates.
This means, man is in charge on the earth, and is therefore responsible for everything that happens or doesn't happen on the earth.
If the earth will prosper, be peaceful, or united depends on man not God. God does not create wars, man does. The same way God did not create cars, men did. We will revisit this again, but for now I said this to paint a better picture of man’s dominion over the earth.
Another example of man’s ability as the image of God on the earth is that he has God’s power to create with his words. In the beginning God said and it was, afterwards and till today, man is speaking and it is.
From the very beginning, God has kept his part of the deal—let men have dominion on the earth.
We see this displayed when he brought what he created to man to name, the Bible said whatsoever Adam called them became their names.
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.”
Genesis 2:19-20 KJV
Just as God said and it became, Adam too said—by his words, all living creatures were named.
Notice God didn’t contest the names with him. Because Adam has been given dominion over the earth.
When God created the woman, he also brought her to Adam: “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
Genesis 2:23 KJV
Again, man expressed his dominion by speaking, or declaring and it became.
God did not overturn the words of man. What he said he saw on the earth—such is man’s dominion over the earth.
Enlightening!
