A RECAP: IN THE BEGINNING, WORDS, THE POWER TO CREATE

For the past nine weeks, we have been on the series which centres around the beginning, words and the power to create. Today, we decided to present a summary of everything before we continue.

First, Foundations always hold the truth about anything.

A place to seek and see the blueprint about life is in the beginning. From scriptures we find that this is the principal truth.

A conversation ensued between the Pharisees and Jesus about divorce; in response to them, he took them to the beginning: "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. Matthew 19:8 NIV (Emphasis mine).

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The book of John sheds more light.
The word was present at the start date of the beginning. The word already was with God when the beginning began. Then he closes with one of the greatest revelations of all time, “and the word was God”.

If the above is understood, bringing Moses and John’s writing together. We can boldly state thus without being wrong; IN THE BEGINNING THE WORD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH.

Also, a closer look at Genesis reveals to us what John meant by “All things were made by the word; and without the word was not any thing made that was made.” (Emphasis mine) ‭‭John‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Nothing was created except by the word. In all this, the word remains uncreated and thus God.

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

At this point, God wants to create and of all the many ways to start creation, John will explain no other route but by the word and Moses will further enlighten us with exactness, 'the how' as seen in verse 3 of Genesis 1: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

Therefore creation happened because God said or the word said.

Notice Moses’ choice of the new word “said” in describing how God created in the beginning, particularly as it has to do with the earth.
By using “said”, he was specific on how things were created. “Said” by implication means words were expressed. Not thoughts, not wishes, not any other way you can think of but words were expressed to bring about the creation of the earth and things in it.

It is clear that God’s instrumentality for the creation of the earth and its inhabitants was words. God spoke and his expressions came to be.

What have we seen thus far? God’s words are creative. The first use of his words in the beginning was not necessarily to communicate as we know it today but to “communicate” creation.
The primary use of words as expressed by God in the beginning communicated creation. Since this is true, and God is God and never changes, his words are still creative today. God’s word is creative.

By his words God spoke the seed principle as we know it today. Where the plant reproduces itself or kind by it’s seed. Meaning a mango tree or fruit will only arise from a mango seed. Genesis 1:11-12.

The beast or animals too reproduce their kind as seen in Genesis 1:24-25. God’s word made this so.

I believe that, if there was a machine that can go to the fundamental parts of the seeds of plants and animals we will find God’s word active and reproducing his very instructions from the beginning—making them stay on course to his dictation.

Of all things created, man was the only being with the record of being created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27.

A close study on the phrase “image of God” shows that man was made to represent God. The intent of God as revealed in the word he spoke is for man to represent him on the earth—"let them have dominion in the earth."

To have dominion on and over everything upon the earth is simply to take charge over the earth, to run the earth, to subdue it, i.e to make the earth submit to the will of man. So much so that whatever man allows on the earth is allowed by God, such is the dominion God gave man by speaking to him.

No other creation of God has this ability, all others are subject to man. On earth, man is god over all.

An example of man’s ability as the image of God on the earth is that he has God’s power to create with his words. In the beginning God said and it was, afterwards and till today, man is speaking and it is.

From the very beginning, God has kept his part of the deal—let men have dominion on the earth.
We see this displayed when he brought what he created to man to name, the Bible said whatsoever Adam called them became their names.
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬.

Just as God said and it became, Adam too said—by his words, all living creatures were named.

When God created the woman, he also brought her to Adam: “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Again, man expressed his dominion by speaking, or declaring and it became.
God did not overturn the words of man. What he said he saw on the earth—such is man’s dominion over the earth.
