Today, in my place of residence, I met an electrician working in a neighbor’s room, what attracted me to him was the loud music he was playing from his Bluetooth sound box. Every track in the collection I heard him play from was either from the 90s or early 2000.
I was nostalgic for a moment, then I smiled to myself, I immediately remembered what it meant back then to know those songs and to sing every line of it. I quickly remembered how it felt not to know them, you were labelled a novice and laughed at, if you have a cycle where you are always laughed at, and inother to belong you go and do all you can to know those songs and the artist.
This calls to mind the days of the blackberry smartphone, everybody talked about it, and almost everybody wanted it. People went beyond their capacities to make sure they are using one. People lied, cheated and even stole to get one. Hello! Where is the smartphone called blackberry now? Who goes to the market to buy one today? Today, the same crave is for the iPhone.
One common thing about the songs I talked about and the phone is this, they are all behind us, they are the past, to an extent the current generation and to a greater extent the future generations will not find them very useful, they sure can do without them.
Stop for a while and ask this question, why do we kill ourselves for things that are present one minute and the next they are not? Why do we base our judgment in life based on temporal things.
Today, people decide who to marry, who to respect, who to be friends with, where to work, even where to worship God based on things like, “good looks”, “he is rich”, “he is current” “ they pay well” and “ I like the way the pastor talks”.
Hear Jesus, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35 NIV), “The Lord's promise is sure. He speaks no careless word; all he says is purest truth, like silver seven times refined.” (Psalm 12:6 TLB).
It is time for us to anchor our lives on the one thing that will outlive time itself, the word of God. I urge to make your life’s principles based on the word of God and for all eternity your choices will stand. Before you take that step, before you go depressed, ask yourself, this step this issue what is guiding it, men’s culture or God’s word.
GO ACHIEVE
