When we talk about clichés, we're looking at a thing or sentence, an action or analogy, or even a person or character that has been used so often, people begin to view it as unoriginal.
And unfortunately, we humans tend to dismiss things that seem in such a manner very quickly. I personally believe it is due to the feeling of over-familiarity we get from experiencing it again—we feel like clichés are what they are, because everyone already knows about them. And very often, we don't want that—our eyes are always on the look out for something better, something fresh, something novel and just as exciting.
"Clichés are boring."
This is one sentence I've heard more times than I can count. And yet, there's a part of me that's okay with the repetitiveness of some clichés—actually, I relish and look forward to them! And I believe some of us do as well, whether we deny it or not. Now, one of such seeming clichés, is this sentence:
"Jesus loves you."
I can already see someone give an unconscious smile as they read this. It's so cheesy and "usual", isn't it? Well, that's the thing—we're so used to hearing this, that for many of us, it fails to hit home anymore. That's something having head knowledge does. It makes that understanding feel repetitive and boring after a while. But when this truth is lodged in our hearts, somehow, it still feels fresh with every new morning.
And this is what I want us to remember today. That the love that Jesus Christ has for us, is evergreen, ever-expressive, ever-available—it's a love that's pure and unconditional and is as timeless as the God who showers it on us. And more than anything, he wants us to always remember this, cliché-sounding or not.
So soak in this knowledge today, a sentence probably more used than a billion others—Jesus loves you! And he loves you unashamedly too. Never forget, and never fail to share this very true and very paradoxical cliché!
You are loved!
