BEAUTY IN THE 'UNSPECTACULAR'

A happy new month to you beloved, even as we draw closer to the end of this year.

This week, I'd like us to learn a bit from today's topic—the "beauty in the 'unspectacular'".

Now, how many times have we caught ourselves during the course of our lives, waiting for that 'next big wave' of epiphany or opportunity to awe us and sweep others off their feet simultaneously?

How many of us wish for that jaw-dropping moment when everything finally falls in place, and everyone is made to notice our brilliance and goodness or skill?

How many times do we shrug off things we do for others or learn daily because they don't feel extraordinary enough?

Finally, how many of us dream of spectacular lives where everyday reminds us of the exciting, 'purpose-filled' inspiring stories we watch on TV?

I know a lot of us do.

And that's why, today's post is a reminder to us to not forget the seemingly plain and mundane but beautiful things in our lives because our eyes and hearts are so focused on the extraordinary parts of them.

There were days when I'd read novels or biographies and skip quickly to the "fun" parts of the books—I just wanted to see how they'd end or get to those places in the stories that easily elicited goosebumps or vivid emotional expressions from me.

The more I did so, the more I realised that most of the time, I ended up missing out on a chunk of character development and life changing lessons. And it showed whenever I tried discussing the books with others—I'd finish before them, but then watch in subtle awe as they described parts of the book I hadn't even noticed or had simply run through.

This re-occurrence caused me to stop and ponder, and it resulted in the realisation that so many of us live this way—we have our hearts so attached to the 'wowing' moments in our lives, that we most times fail to realise the tangibility and depth of the plain ones. In doing so, sometimes we miss out on some basic but core parts of our stories or the realisation that we have so much more to be thankful for.

So, take today's post as a well needed reminder— to notice the beauty in the unspectacular and intentionally learn to revel in it!
