"It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.
They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness."
– Lamentations 3:23(The Amplified translation)
In the scripture above, we are reminded of a very tangible feature that characterises who God is — His faithfulness.
Over and over again, scripture reminds us of God's faithfulness to us, regardless of whatever state we are in. From the Old Testament to the new, the Bible is filled with declarations of how steady and trustworthy God is – how His faithfulness gives people reasons to sing.
And for the believer who has come to know God as Father and saviour because of Jesus Christ, we have an assurance that the one who has called us is the one whose name is 'Faithful'. This means that regardless of how we feel about situations, or what happens as a result of our actions or inaction, the faithfulness of the Lord is a given, because it is who He is.
That being said, we are able to rest in the knowledge of whatever He promises to us and be assured of their fulfilment because He is faithful to His word always.
For a lot of us, sometimes we give up on our dreams – the visions He had laid in our hearts – or even on ourselves, when we see things not going the way we might have planned or expected time and time again. However, we must be comforted in the fact that if the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness towards us is totally fresh every morning, and He has promised to stand faithfully beside us, then we can surely not give up on ourselves.
"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (For) Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it."
– 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24(King James Version)
The Bible makes it clear that even the preservation of our entirety depends on God's inherent faithfulness. This for us, should be a source of joy for there is no greater 'collateral' neither is there a greater surety than having the entirety of our existence rest upon God's faithfulness.
We can be assured that no matter how bad it may seem for us, we can always overcome and advance because our lives are firmly held by Him who is the embodiment of faithfulness.
