'...When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord." But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”' [1 Samuel 16:6-7, NIV Translation, emphasis; mine.]
These are the Lord's words to His beloved children today. There are some of us currently battling with fear and exhaustion. You've committed your ways to God but it seems like everything and everyone that is coming your way does not look like the future he had shown you or what you had ever envisioned for yourself.
The business you set up, trusting in Him right now feels like a failing project. The career you are currently studying for seems to stand no chance when you look around you and at the economy of the world. For some people the persons he brought your way do not look like the men or women of stature you prayed about when you asked him to give you a network of influential voices as friends and acquaintances. And for a set of people what has made doubt hit them like a sledge hammer with immense force is the knowledge that their significant other does not seem to look like those that fit into the mould of "powerful, influential and eloquent" or "most promising personality" or "most likely to start up a life-changing venture", based on their current state or situation. With all these going on, you cannot help but wonder if anything good is going to amount from the path you are currently on, and sometimes you feel like calling it quits and staking out on your own. That would at least give you a semblance of control over some aspects of your life: something you don't seem to have now.
The Father however, is telling you to hold on and trust Him. Sometimes for some of us, the greatest effort we can make at certain points is just agreeing not to run out on our own while he grips us firmly to Himself, because we don't seem to have any strength left for more action than that. Today, our Father resounds it in our heads and our hearts the fact that He, God almighty has plans for us: he doesn't plan on abandoning us but on giving us a future and an expected end. And at those points when we are too tired to fight or even hold on, He wants us to know that he has us cradled safely in His ever large palms.
So let our hearts be encouraged. Let these words lift us up in hope. Things might not look like what you have always had in mind yet, and that person might not look like the ideal spouse yet, but the God that looks into the future and into the hearts of men directs your paths. Because you trust in Him continually, He will make things come out in undeniable beauty and give you that continuous sense of fulfillment to keep you going on this journey of faith, hope and love.
Let this be the continuous song of your heart: That the ways of the Lord are higher than the ways of men (natural men) and that He alone knows what lies in the heart of every person you come across. And because you trust in, believe in, and completely rely on His spirit, He will make known to you all you need to be aware of and will surely bring you to that expected end.
