It is becoming increasingly difficult to stay focused on a thing for long in our fast and highly distracting world. With one click of the button on your smart device, you are transported to a world millions of miles away.
Too many things dampen our attention; smart phones, different shades of entertainment, television, fashion, even the fear of tomorrow. And this list is non-exhaustive.
These our bittersweet objects of distraction keep us away from the focus needed to achieve the desired task. Each time we succumb to their appeal, we lose focus of the goal for the moment.
Remember Peter in the Bible? When he saw Jesus walking on the sea, he desired to also walk on water, which he did by responding to Jesus’ call. As long as he had his gaze on Jesus and the goal of walking on water, he did not sink.
“Come and join me,” Jesus replied. So Peter stepped out onto the water and began to walk toward Jesus.”
Matthew 14:29 TPT
Let's take a look at two scriptures to help define what our focus is supposed to be in this world with ever changing times and seasons.
Keep your focus on Jesus.
“Come and join me,” Jesus replied. So Peter stepped out onto the water and began to walk toward Jesus. But when he realized how high the waves were, he became frightened and started to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he cried out.” (Matthew 14:29-30 TPT).
Keep your focus on the goal.
“Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!” (Hebrews 12:2 TPT).
This week as you go after your goals, dreams or visions, don't be distracted by fear, lies, your past failures, lack of finance, or shortcomings. Rather, focus on Jesus and you will not fall short of your expectations.
Don't lose focus on the goal. Discard any picture in your head that comes to torment you, because it's not the desired end.
Like Jesus, for the joy of attaining our goal. We will endure the cross, despise the shame, and at the end, we will sing the victor's song!
