You know the problem is that you keep revisiting that heartbreak, the pain, the lie you told, the life you used to live which is deeply rooted in yesterday. It is like peeling of the scarification marks over a wound, it bleeds. The same thing happens each time you go back to the past, pick up an issue and focus your thoughts on it.
If you don’t drive, at least you have seen those who do, nobody drives a car forward by looking at the rear mirror. We look into the rear mirror only when we want to go back. Keep looking at the rear mirror while you try to go forward, you will end up with an accident.
Many of us are constantly on the floor, because we have refuse to let go of the past. We have isolated ourselves from anything that will help us forget the past. We store pictures from a past that reminds us of the hurt. We pen down into our diaries messages that broke our hearts many years ago. We refuse to see eye to eye with the ones that did us wrong.
Funny, some of us boast of how good we are in upholding these negative pillars in our hearts. If you must grow or go forward or breakthrough in life you must let go of yesterday.
Stop for a while, you have refused to forgive yourself and you expect the pain to go? What about the one who hurt you and you expect God to forgive you?
You have spent a good part of your life looking backward, is time to move on, to grow, to keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed — that exhilarating finish in and with God — he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. (Hebrew 12:2 MSG)
