Relationships are very delicate and I believe should be handled so. One of the reason we record so many heartbreaks and disappointments is because we fail to see them as they are. The word relationship is a broad term, at the least, it is the state of affairs between those involved.
The world they say is quickly becoming a global village and thus someone from the western part of Africa is in touch every other minute with another from the eastern part of Europe, and they have never met.
For reasons as this and more, people have forgotten this fact so quick, there is a difference between a friend and an acquaintance, who is family and who is not. Just because our social media handle labels someone as our friend, does not make them one.
I happen to be open and free or at least I think so, welcoming and treating everybody I meet as a friend, not bad right? My mistake was expecting them to return the favor, treat me as a friend, the end? Disappointments and heartbreaks.
It is disastrous to hold somebody in your heart as a friend while in their view you are just another acquaintance. You treat them as family while they see you as a business partner. This kind of imbalance will wreck anyone.
As much as you can, try to know what kind of relationship you are in before naming it. If you can, ask questions, "What kind of relationship is this”. So many people are dating people who see them as acquaintances. Imagine the heartbreak when they finally realize their true position.
Check, the reason for the ups and down in your current relationship might just be both of you are relating from a different plane. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos
Finally, to have a good relationship, make sure to be on the same plane. Friends should be friends, family should be family and acquaintance should be acquaintance. These relationships function with different rules, respect your space and its rules.
