WHAT MAKES GOD SMILE

John couldn't wait to leave the office, he was knackered beyond words. He tried not to be surprised after all it was a glorious Monday- the most dreaded day of the week, packed with meetings, physical and virtual. And to make matter more interesting, it was the first of the month and for some reason the audits for July were moved from the previous week to the done this particular day and plans for the month were scheduled in the day's itinerary.

But somehow he survived, it was 6pm.
With a final glance on the presentation on his iPad. He grabbed his suitcase and jacket and sprinted out of the building.

“But Sir.. your 9am tomorrow wants to..” his secretary called after him.

“Send me a text Sylvia..” he changed not looking back as he got out his car keys.
Some few minutes later, he was in the comfort of the air-conditioned atmosphere of his lexus. He sighed in relief and just before he could decide what his next stop for dinner would be, his phone chimmed.

He cringed.

Where are you?

Been calling all-day..

You're not responding to my texts either
Need some cash for my daily upkeep
My mum also needs her routine antihypertensives.
I'm just fed up with this lagos hustle.

Hope you still have my account details..
Thanks for always coming through,
I love you,
Cynthia.

John felt the heat rise up his gut. This was only a relationship of three months for goodness sake, he hadn't even officially proposed and it had been one financial request or the other. She had never asked him about his own welfare, progress or growth. If it wasn't her rent, it was money for aso ebi, or transport or a surprise party who in the world organises their own surprise party?

He'd had it, she didn't love him she only saw him as a human ATM machine.

Love was a two way traffic and this just felt like a frustrating girdlock on third mainland.

Sound familiar?

Maybe it does, but in context of our relationship with God, are we not selfish lovers? When was the last time you came to his presence without a request but a blank cheque from your end for him to fill with whatever He would want you to do.
A healthy relationship is one that flows in both directions and our’s with God isn't any different. He wants us to come to Him not for what we can get from Him but for the sheer pleasure of loving Him and being with Him. Imagine God's heart flutter in delight when you ask Him “Abba how can I make you smile today?”

This is true worship

This is why you were created.

For his pleasure

To make Him smile.
