FORGIVE AND FORGET; TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN 2

God said; “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

—Hebrews 8:12; KJV‬‬

Well, did you just say, “But that is God and not me?”

The implications of this statement many people make is damaging.

One, as earlier stated, this knowledge that God forgives and forget because he is God and has the capacity to hinder your ability to forgive and forget. It blinds your eyes to see beyond statements like “to err is human and to forgive is divine”.

Such thoughts that bequeaths to forgive and forget to be divine only robs humanity of the possibility that resides in man to forgive and forget.

This leads us to the second implication of the statement “But that is God and not me”.

Once you acknowledge this, you distance yourself from your ability to forgive and forget. You stay bitter and unforgiving towards others and justify it by saying “only God can”.

If to forgive and forget is for God only, he won’t ask men to forgive.

“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Notice, Jesus said “until seventy times seven”, Jesus teaches us that forgiveness is continual, that it should go on and on. No one should be turned down for forgiveness.

This is possible when we don’t recount the wrongs of people when they offend us. This attitude rids us of the strength to forgive and forget.

If it is your custom to always revisit the wrongs of people, you never forgave them no matter how loud you scream you have forgiven them.

You may think what I am telling you is out of your reach but it is not. How do we know God has forgiven us? Because he said he will never remember it again! This is true forgiveness, it comes with forgetting the wrong.

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
—Hebrews 8:12; KJV‬‬

Dear friend, set your heart that this is possible and true for you. It starts with acknowledging the possibility.

You can forgive and forget.
