It’s been such a beautiful time these past three weeks learning about Love and as we draw the curtain on this series, we trust that our Love walk still continues as we look to Father in absolute trust.
In favour of the rewind button, we’ve learnt true love begins with God for He is the essence of love, He is love and our love walk starts when we accept this love-holding nothing back for it is that which we have received that we can give others. We also examined some of the characteristics of love and established that Love isn’t a feeling but a conscious and deliberate effort to be led by the Spirit of God in all our dealings.
Have you ever watched a love story? Boy meets girl and they ‘fall in love’, nothing has ever felt so sure, they believe they are made for each other. Every now and then, they make promises and declarations of their love, committing themselves to each other. However, disaster strikes and the guy is involved in a ghastly motor accident that puts him in coma. Prognosis is bad, doctors fear he might never wake up or if he does, chances are he’d be in a vegetative state forever. However, our ‘Juliet’ never leaves his side, even while his family and friends give up, she refuses to believe he is gone. She keeps holding his hand and speaking to him, putting him to remembrance of all they’d shared and reaffirming her love for him.
Weeks turns to months and nothing happens. The guys parents are disturbed, it was too painful to know that their son was there physically but absent in soul and spirit. They decide to let him go permanently. ‘Doctors please take him off life support’ they decided in sorrow, and out of respect they give ‘Juliet’ 24 hours to say her good byes. She is devastated, but still refuses to let go. She lies on the bed with her beloved, singing their most favourite song, hoping that somehow he would hear her and wake up, she does this ‘til she falls asleep. She dreams that they sing the song together, smiling and holding hands into the horizon of forever. A stir rouses her from sleep and she doesn’t believe her ears. A croaky voice of her beloved singing their song back to her with tears in his eyes. And they lived happily ever after.
Mushiness overload right?
But one truth we must know is when it is all said and done, Love wins. It won the final victory on the cross and it keeps winning in the lives of many today. How? you may ask. The moment you received Christ in your life, Love won; That day you decided to turn the other cheek when someone hurt you, Love won; When you decided to let go of all the hurt an abusive parent did to you and pursue a loving relationship-starting over, Love won; when you decided to start praying for your friends yet to know Jesus, Love won. When you decide to love the unlovable, undeserving set of people in your life, Love won. As Jesus ever makes intercession for you, Love wins.
So you see, Love wins at the end of it all. You might say,"but I’m loving and yet nothing seems to be changing". Patience now beloved, most assuredly love will win, keep sowing, keep watering.A beautiful harvest awaits.
